My Cassette Mix Tape's Digital Upgrade

Are you old enough to remember making mix tapes? Whether using vinyl records or waiting expectantly for that favorite song on the radio to start playing, mix tapes were the modern version of 'playlists' of the current digital age.

For years I've been hoping to get my hands on a working tape recorder to play my mix tape notably titled Fave Songs. Yes, I've listened to some of the songs on YouTube or Spotify, but never did it dawn on me until yesterday that I could recreate the tape to a digital format.

Literally within minutes, what had been a double-sided TDK cassette is now digital. Not only is there need for a big woofer, massive speakers, or a pencil, it's handheld and I can jump to a different song at a tap of the screen. No time wasted pushing the forward or reverse button to skip songs. It's almost magical how the technology has evolved.

Even though I'm in awe of what I did, it does make me a little sad. Living in the present and looking towards the future has it's stresses, but it is nice to transport back to the past and enjoy a bit of nostalgia.

In the work I do as a home organizer, I encounter old technology all the time.

Cassettes, cds, VHS tapes, vinyl records, Kodak slides, photos prints from film.

If there are special memories like wedding videos on a VHS tape, my recommendation is to have them converted to current technology to be able to access what you're preserved.
